How do I read a QR from a photo?

Drop or paste a JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC image. The text appears in Preview. Copy it, or open a link only if you trust the destination.

What if I deny the camera?

Deny is safe. The page shows Camera blocked and file intake still works. Frames never left this device. You can allow the camera later in the browser site settings.

Do camera frames get uploaded?

No. A live scan draws frames to a canvas and runs jsQR on this device. Nothing is posted to a server. There is no scan tracking.

Why does the camera need HTTPS?

Most browsers allow getUserMedia only on a secure page. https://nixrey.com and localhost qualify. If the camera is blocked, use a photo instead.

What if the photo has GPS?

A banner appears at the top of Preview. Remove EXIF Data opens with that photo already loaded. The decoded text is separate from the photo file.

Is HEIC supported?

HEIC from an iPhone is accepted when this browser can read it. If it cannot, convert with HEIC to JPG first. The file stays on this device.
