Is the text really gone?
Yes. Pages with a box are saved as a picture, so text under the box can't be copied. Other text on those pages becomes part of the picture too and can't be selected.
Does the download keep my pages?
Pages without a box usually stay as they were. A page that shares content with a page that has a box, such as a common letterhead, is turned into a picture too. Pages with a box become a picture, so their text can't be selected or searched.
Black vs White vs Blur?
All three turn the page into a picture first. All three remove the text under the box. Blur shows a soft patch instead of a solid one.
All pages vs each page separately?
All pages paints one set of boxes on every page. Each page separately lets you draw a different set on each page.
Can hidden text remain in the original?
Your original file is not changed. In the download, pages with boxes are a picture, so nothing on them can be copied. The original file you opened still has the text, so keep it private or delete it.
What if my PDF is encrypted?
This tool cannot process a password-protected PDF here. Unlock it first on /pdf-password, then come back with the unlocked file.
How do I verify privacy?
Redact runs in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded to a NixRey server. Press F12 and open the network panel. The page may load app code. That is not your PDF.
Is editor whiteout the same?
No. Whiteout only covers. Redact takes the text out. Open /pdf-editor for whiteout.
Does Redact include OCR?
No. We do not run OCR. You draw each region. This tool does not read text from the page.
Do you find personal data automatically?
No. You draw each box yourself. Only what's under your boxes is removed.
