Frequently Asked Questions
What the unscrambler does, and what it doesn't.
How do I unscramble letters?
Type your letters, add any filters, then click Unscramble or press Enter. You see the words from the list that your letters can spell, grouped by length, longest first.
Does it find shorter words too?
Yes. By default you see words of 2 letters or more that fit your letters. Tick Use all letters to see only words that use every letter. Those are full anagrams.
Can I see only 5-letter or 7-letter words?
There's no length setting. Results are grouped by length, so look at the 5-letter or 7-letter group. For one length only, type exactly 5 or 7 letters and tick Use all letters.
How do blank tiles work?
Type ? for each blank tile. Each ? can be any letter, in any spot. Blanks score 0 when you sort by Scrabble score.
What do Starts with, Ends with and Contains do?
They narrow the results. Starts with and Ends with take up to 3 letters each. Contains takes 1 letter that every word must include. They don't add letters to the ones you typed.
Which word list does it use?
A free public list called ENABLE, with about 172,000 English words. Many word games use it, but some use a different list, so a few words may differ from your game. It has no names and no definitions.
How is the Scrabble score worked out?
The letter values in each word are added up. Blank tiles count 0. Board bonuses like double word aren't included.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The word list loads into the page once, and the search runs in your browser.
