Text vs pixel or layout compare?
Compare renders both PDFs and marks pixels that differ in red. It also diffs the text layer when one exists. It does not compare layout structure.
Same engine as PDF to text?
The text patch uses the same text-layer extract as /pdf-to-text. The page view is a separate pixel compare of the rendered pages.
What about scanned PDFs?
Identical scans stay idle. Scans that differ show red marks on the changed pixels. There is no OCR. The text patch stays idle without a text layer.
What does Download patch do?
Download patch saves pdf-text-diff.patch. The file is a unified text diff of added and removed lines. It is not a visual overlay PDF and it is not a clipboard copy.
Are both files still private?
Yes. Both PDFs stay in your browser. Compare does not upload them. There is no account.
What if a PDF is encrypted?
This tool cannot process a password-protected PDF here. Unlock it first on /pdf-password, then come back with the unlocked file.
