How it works
Four steps that match this page. Everything runs in your browser.
- 1
Choose Metric or Imperial
Metric uses kg and cm. Imperial uses pounds, feet, and inches.
- 2
Enter weight and height
Type both measurements. The BMI updates as you edit.
- 3
Read BMI and category
The sticky Results panel shows the BMI number and the WHO category.
- 4
Check WHO gauge, range chips, and medical note
The gauge marks where you sit. Chips list the adult bands, including Class I to III. Healthy weight for this height sits with the result. The medical note stays next to the result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Job answers for WHO cutoffs, obesity classes, units, screening limits, muscle mass, and privacy.
What are the WHO adult BMI cutoffs?
Underweight is below 18.5. Normal weight is 18.5 to 24.9. Overweight is 25 to 29.9. Obese is 30 and above. Class I is 30 to 34.9. Class II is 35 to 39.9. Class III is 40 and above. Healthy weight for your height uses the normal band.
What changes between metric and imperial?
Metric takes weight in kilograms and height in centimeters. Imperial takes weight in pounds and height in feet and inches. Both modes show the same BMI scale and WHO categories.
Is BMI a diagnosis?
No. BMI is a screening tool and not a diagnostic measure. It does not replace advice from a clinician.
Does BMI account for muscle mass?
No. BMI does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or other individual health factors. A higher BMI can reflect muscle as well as fat.
